The browser access extension

The TechXTerm browser access extension sends the specific web addresses your administrator has approved through your own company network, using a companion program installed on the same computer. Everything else your browser does carries on over your ordinary connection, untouched.

What it keeps on your computer

Which of your networks you left switched on, so the panel opens in the state you left it. Nothing else is saved between sessions. The list of networks and approved addresses is fetched fresh each time and is never written to disk.

What it sends, and where

It asks your own TechXTerm installation which networks you are allowed to use, and completes a passkey prompt on that same address. When you open an approved site, the destination name is handed to the companion program so the connection can be made. Nothing is sent anywhere else.

What it cannot see

It has no access to the pages you visit, your tabs, your browsing history, your bookmarks or your cookies. This is not a promise, it is a limit of what the extension asks for: it requests no permission over any website except your own TechXTerm address, and it installs no code into any page.

Why we cannot read the traffic itself

The encrypted session runs between your browser and the site you are visiting. TechXTerm carries that traffic without holding a key to it, so the contents of the pages you open, and anything you type into them, are never readable by us. Only the destination name is visible, because it is what tells the connection where to go.

No tracking of any kind

The extension contains no analytics, no advertising code, no error reporting to a third party, and no unique identifier for you or your machine. It loads no code from the internet at run time: every line it runs ships inside the package Chrome and Firefox review.

Connection records, and who holds them

So that an administrator can see who reached what, and so a company can answer its own auditors, a TechXTerm installation keeps a record of each connection: who made it, which network, which destination, when, and how much data moved. The contents of the connection are not recorded, because they are not readable.

Those records belong to the organisation that runs the installation, and its administrators decide how long they are kept. If your employer runs TechXTerm, your employer holds those records and its own policy governs them. Ask your administrator if you want to know how long they are kept where you work.

Signing in

TechXTerm uses passkeys. There is no password to store, so we never hold one, and there is nothing in our systems that could be stolen and reused as your password somewhere else.

The passkey itself never leaves your device. What reaches us is a signature proving your device approved the sign-in, and a public key, which by design cannot be used to impersonate you.

This website

techxterm.com carries no analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixels and no third party scripts. We do not build a profile of visitors and we do not know who you are unless you tell us.

One cookie

A single cookie remembers whether you chose the light or the dark theme, so the page does not flash the wrong one while it loads. It holds that one word and nothing else, it is not shared with anyone, and clearing it simply returns the site to following your system setting.

If you write to us

A message sent through the contact form reaches us with whatever you put in it. We use it to answer you and we do not add you to a mailing list off the back of it.

What we never do

These are commitments, and they are the same ones we declare to the Chrome Web Store.

We do not sell your data

Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone, at any price.

We do not use it for anything unrelated

What the extension and the application handle is used to make the connection you asked for and to keep the record your administrator needs. It is not repurposed for marketing, product analytics or model training.

We do not use it to judge you

Nothing here feeds a credit decision, a lending decision, or any assessment of you as a person.

Asking us what we hold

You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, and we will answer within thirty days.

One honest limit: where your employer runs the TechXTerm installation, that organisation controls those records and we cannot delete them on your behalf. We will tell you who to ask, and help them act on your request.

Changes to this policy

If this text changes in a way that affects what we collect or what we do with it, we will change the date at the top and say what changed. We will not quietly widen it.
